VLADIMIR HOROWITZ – THE VIDEO COLLECTION 에는 그의 첫 런던 리사이틀 실황 영상을 비롯, 비엔나에서 열렸던 리사이틀들과 더불어 60여년만에 모스크바에서 가졌던 역사적인 리사이틀 실황이 담겨있다.

 

이 중 첫번째 DVD인 “The Last Romantic”은 그의 뉴욕 자택에서 촬영된 것으로 이 DVD에서 호로비츠는 자택에서의 연주와 더불어 그가 평생 가장 애착을 보였던 작곡가인 리스트, 쇼팽, 슈만, 스크랴빈과 라흐마니노프에 대해 이야기한다. 이와 대조적으로 호로비츠는 말년에야 모차르트를 재발견했는데, 그가 남긴 유일한 모차르트 협주곡 레코딩의 비하인드 씬을 담은 다큐멘터리에서 우리는 그가 말년에 발견한 모차르트에 대한 애정을 진하게 느낄 수 있다.

또한 이 에디션은 희귀한 영상 자료들을 대거 수록하고 있는데, 공연과 인터뷰, 호로비츠가 개인적으로 녹화해둔 자료들을 통해 우리는 20세기 전인류가 사랑했고 현재까지도 그리워하는 블라디미르 호로비츠라는 피아니스트를 그가 사랑했던 아내인 완다 토스카니니 호로비츠의 나레이션으로 만날 수 있다.
